Telehealth Q&A

Am I eligible for a Medicare rebate for Telehealth sessions?

Yes. Under the Australian Government's permanent Telehealth Medicare items, clients across Australia can access Medicare-subsidised video consultations. To claim a rebate, you will need a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and referral from your GP.

How do online psychology sessions work, and are they as effective as in-person therapy?

Telehealth sessions run for 50 minutes, identical to in-person consultations. Clinical research demonstrates that telehealth is just as effective as face-to-face therapy for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, life transitions, and stress management. You will receive a secure video link via email prior to your appointment; simply click the link using a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and internet connection.

Can I use Private Health Insurance for Telehealth appointments?

Most major Australian private health funds provide rebates for Telehealth consultations with registered psychologists. Coverage depends on your specific fund and level of extras cover. After your session, we issue an itemised receipt that you can submit directly to your health fund for reimbursement.
